Update on amending the soil

Spring is finally here so as we are adding compost to the garden beds and slowly tilling up the soil it’s actually beginning to look like a real garden ๐Ÿ™‚

I have asparagus crowns, horse radish, and Jerusalem artichokes that I brought over from California that we will put into a beds of their own so hopefully they survive being transplanted into permanent beds.

The soil needs alot of work and as we chug along we are noticing how quickly it dries out due to the already intense sun and high winds. However, adding drip irrigation and trenching on top of the mounds seems to be helping the soil stay moist longer and allow the water to go deeper. So our hope is the vegetable that have survived the winter sowing experiment will thrive in the new beds. We are also working on putting up shade cloth as the summer heats up.
